I’ve got work to do…

I arrived in England (Gatwick Airport) about 11 am local on Saturday morning.  Two trains later (well actually 3, but one of them was wrong) and I was a 25 minute walk from my BnB.  I love to walk, especially in new places, however lugging 95 lbs (a 46 and 49 lb roller suitcase, for those of you who’ve been asking) is not what I call an ideal circumstance.  It was a long trip, not helped by the fact that I was already a little bit tired due to some late night Molly Bloomsing…

I’m staying at a BnB in Didcot (it is pronounced with a hard T sound at the end), which is the town where Pirelli is located.  It’s about 55 miles West of London, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to do here.  Oh, and it’s poured rain pretty much since I got off the plane…Denver feels a long ways away let me tell you.

This morning I walked over to work, it seems to be located especially in the middle of nowhere, but it’s only a 20 minute walk from my BnB.  After that, I took the train into Oxford to meet a couple friends (from when I did my masters in Oxford) at my favourite Oxford Pub, the Turf Tavern.  It wasn’t a nice day to be wandering about, but at least I saw some familiar sites and faces!

Once I returned to the BnB, I spent most of my time researching sports leagues and apartments.  I think I’d like to live in Oxford, as it seems there will be much more to do there.  That slightly complicates (or at least accelerates the timeline for) the car plan.  I could stay in Didcot and walk, but I don’t think I’d like that medium-long term.  I’d just like to get ‘settled’ as quick as I can!

I won’t start work until Jan 3rd, which I’m a little disappointed about.  I’d like to get into and on with it as soon as possible, but one more day to get my feet under me is probably not at bad thing.
